Vera Manuel is from the Secwepemc and Ktunaxa
A First Nations and grew up on the Neskonlith reserve in interior BC. Currently living in Vancouver, Vera is a writer, poet and playwright who has toured and performed her work for the past 20 years. She is also a founding member of Storyteller Productions Aboriginal Theater Company. In 2006, she was honoured with a World Poetry Lifetime Achievement Award.
In the spring of 2008, Vera received an Aboriginal Arts Development Award to help fund the production of her spoken-word CD, entitled “When I First Came to Know Myself.”
