“This project will allow me to continue practicing my art making skills and provide a way to distribute my work throughout the community. I would like young people to think about making art for people and not just the money.”
A logger for most of his life, Arnie Charlie is now retired and raising his grandchildren, He began to realize his natural artistic talents later in life, while participating in the Musqueam Visual Arts Program. There he began to create sculpture, carvings, jewelry pieces, prints, garments and fabric for gifts, donations and community events. Arnie says that in addition to keeping his mind and spirit healthy and active in the culture and community, making his art keeps him close to his grandchildren.
